Information
Located in Burke County in the northwestern part of North
Dakota. Powers
Lake was incorporated in 1909. The present
governing body consists of a Mayor and a Council. Powers Lake's economy is made up of ranching and
agriculture. Crops grown include wheat, durum, barley, oats, flax,
sunflowers, canola, mustard, field peas, lentils, and
alfalfa.
The City of Powers Lake features a
city hall, senior citizens center, bank, hardware store, furniture and
electric store, elevator, automobile dealer, farm implement
dealer, grocery store, lumber yard, veterinarian clinics, welding
shops, motel, cafe, full
service gas station and several other businesses. Powers Lake has many active clubs and organizations
like: Civic Club, Music Boosters, Quarterback Club, Saddle Club,
American Legion and Auxiliary, Community Club, and a Golf Club.
Powers Lake’s American Legion Hall is a large
community building that can be used for special events and dances.

There are five Churches located in town; they are the St. James
Roman Catholic Church, Holy Cross Lutheran, Bethel Baptist, Lake Assembly of God, Jehovah.
Main Street Improvement
Association has played a big role in the city maintaining and
attracting new business. Projects over the past years have been
remodeling a building for a new business. Their latest project was a
new building to house a dental clinic and a chiropractic clinic.
Stock is sold to local and area people to raise funding for new
projects.
Powers Lake Area Development and
the City are taking an active approach to maintaining our existing
businesses and are looking for new businesses. We have T1 and DSL
speed cable available, and a current Workforce Labor Study for
technology based businesses to look at. Burke County has a JDA available to assist in creating new

Powers Lake has a one cent sales tax to
help with new business developments, interest buy downs, park
funding, and lake development projects. For more information about our town

The community is served by a
volunteer fire department. The department has twenty three members
and their chief is Arlo Griesbach, who is the president of the North
Dakota Association of Firemen. A main source of pride is our
volunteer ambulance squad having nineteen crew members that are
nationally certified EMT's and five first responders. The ambulance
squad leaders are Jane Streifel and Kari Enget.
