About Us

Located in Burke County in the northwestern part of North Dakota, Powers Lake was incorporated in 1909. The present governing body consists of a Mayor and a Council. Powers Lake's economy is made up of ranching and agriculture. Crops grown include wheat, durum, barley, oats, flax, sunflowers, canola, mustard, field peas, lentils, and alfalfa.

The City of Powers Lake features a city hall, senior citizens center, daycare center, bank, hardware store, flooring store, elevator, grocery store, lumber yard, veterinarian clinic, motel, cafe, full service gas station and several other businesses. Powers Lake has many active clubs and organizations like: Civic Club, Music Boosters, Booster Club, American Legion and Auxiliary, Community Club, and a Golf Club.

 Powers Lake’s American Legion Hall is a large community building that can be used for special events and dances. This building can be rented out for community or special events, please call John Albertson, Mayor at 701-464-5682 for more information.

There are five churches located in town; St. James Roman Catholic Church, Holy Cross Lutheran, Bethel Baptist, Lake Assembly of God, Jehovah.

The city is taking an active approach to maintaining our existing businesses and are looking for new businesses. We have T1 and DSL speed cable available. Burke County has a JDA available to assist in creating new businesses in our communities. Powers Lake has a one cent sales tax to help with new business developments, interest buy downs, park funding, and lake development projects.
